CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE HOLDS TOWN MEETING TO DISCUSS URBAN RENEWAL PLAN

The Citizens’ Committee will be holding a town meeting to look after their interests in regard to, Montreal’s plan of urban renewal taking place in a neighbourhood of 14,00 residents.

ABOUT THE CITIZEN’S COMMITTEE

  • started by two representatives of former St. Martin’s block, who were dissatisfied with the city’s housing project for residents
  • committed to making sure residents have an equal say in administration of the urban renewal plan
  • offers citizen’s to have a voice in decisions that will effect their lives

CITIZENS

  • 14,000 residents in the area of the new urban renewal plan launched by the city
  • 300 families were first notified to leave their houses

WHY THE CITIZEN’S COMMITTEE

  • defines its aims and objectives concerning administration and rent scales of new housing plan
  • have made residents rights known and the committee itself recognized

GET INVOLVED

  • we have fought to be recognized as representatives as former residents of St Martin’s
  • the right to a decent home, is a basic right for everyone.
  • the residents should have an equal voice in administration, and hope that this will lead to urban renewal that is not only physical, but human
